I grew up in a musical home – I married a singer/songwriter so music is often a go to for me when I need comfort, when I need to relax or when I want to set the tone. Music is everything!!
One thing I learned from my husband is the importance of ending a song well. If you mess up and get a little (or a lot) pitchy, get it together and end well. “The audience remembers the last note so make it count.”
I’ve been to (what seems like) a bazillion concerts.
Here’s the scene: the crowd is screaming as the last song is sung, the band ends the song, bows and leaves the stage. The audience erupts in applause, standing to their feet, clapping and chanting in unison, “one more song, one more song”. Wait for it, wait for it…… the band runs through the curtain, the crowd goes wild and they kick off their encore. Adrenaline is at a high – drums roll out the last beat and hang there, the singers are holding out the note, the band is vamping, the crowd is roaring. The stage lights go out and the venue lights come on. People begin to hustle to the closest exit, they haven’t stopped to take a breath: “Did you see that drummer? That last song….” The band ended well and the fans talk about it for a long time.
I can see the same scene playing out in heaven.
The countdown is on. There’s only 3 more sleeps until 2016 is HISTORY!!!
ALL OF HEAVEN WANTS YOU TO WIN!!!
Angels are standing up cheering us on. Hebrews chapter 12 talks about the great crowd of witnesses.
Breathing deep, I close my eyes as I’m typing this – picturing it taking place, angels and family members, friends, Jesus Himself standing up cheering me on; “You can do it”, “You can make it”, “You can end 2016 well”. “I know you can!!!”
I’ve spent quite sometime lately looking back over 2016.
To be honest, 2016 was tough!! It came with unexpected CHANGE!! Followed by questions – lots of questions – and uncertainty, lonely days and long nights. Fighting with all I had in me to win, to overcome, to rise above.
The unexpected change dropped me to my knees!!
I wish I could say that as 2016 comes to a close, I understand it all and have it all figured out. That we’re flowing in milk and honey and rejoicing because it’s over – nope!!
But I can tell you that we are rejoicing in the midst of it because HE IS STILL GOD – HE IS ON THE THRONE – HE IS IN CONTROL AND VERY PRESENT THROUGH IT ALL!!
So for that, I am doing my very best to end 2016 well. With faith and joy and peace that ONLY COMES FROM HIM!!
With God ALL things are possible!!
With God we can RISE ABOVE IT ALL!!!
Benjamin Franklin said, “Some people die at 25 and aren’t buried until 75.”
Can I say, that will NOT be me!
Regardless of the unexpected change or the cares of life, I want to give it my all even in the midst of uncertainty.
I look forward to THAT DAY, the day when Jesus says, “Well done, you good and faithful servant.”
I want my children and my grandchildren, even my great grandchildren to know through it all, I trusted in JESUS!!
God has used a few things in my life the last couple of weeks to be a challenge and an encouragement to me and I want to share them with you.
- First is my husband Kent’s song, Rise Above It ALL. Click HERE to hear it.
- The Christmas Eve message, Change of Plans, from Pastor Craig Groeschel at Life.Church. You can listen HERE.
- Rebekah Lyon’s new book, You Are Free. It is coming out in February.
My prayer for you this day is that you will take the time to seek His face and listen to what He wants for you in the next 2 days.
I don’t know what it is for you. It might be something as simple as laughing with your children, or writing that letter, starting that book, forgiving that person, forgiving yourself, dancing with you husband, taking sometime for yourself, listening to a podcast, writing in your journal, or visiting your family. Listen to God and take the time to do what He is telling you to do. Let’s cheer each other on as we end 2016 WELL!!!
Cheers and big hugs to you,
